Databricks is doubling down on its Asia-Pacific bet. The AI and data analytics company has appointed Simon Davies as Senior Vice President and General Manager for Asia Pacific & Japan, with the executive operating out of Singapore. Davies, a 30-year enterprise tech veteran who previously led SAP's APAC business, will oversee Databricks' operations across ASEAN, India, Australia & New Zealand, Japan, Korea and Greater China. The company also announced plans to move into a new Singapore headquarters at IOI Central Boulevard Towers later this year, quadrupling its current footprint. Databricks now employs over 1,500 people across APJ, with the region posting more than 85% year-over-year growth in its fourth quarter. New regional customers include Singapore Customs, Samsung Life Insurance, and SingTel. The company is actively pushing new AI products into the region, including Lakebase — a serverless Postgres database designed for AI agents — and Genie, an AI agent platform for natural-language enterprise data queries.

Why it matters for Singapore: Singapore continues to serve as the regional hub for Big Tech AI expansion. Databricks' decision to base its APJ leader here and significantly expand its office footprint signals confidence in Singapore's position as a launchpad for enterprise AI adoption across Southeast Asia. Local organisations like Singapore Customs and SingTel are already on its customer roster.
