Singapore's sovereign wealth funds have made their biggest bet on frontier AI yet. GIC and Temasek both participated in Anthropic's record-breaking $65 billion Series H funding round, which values the Claude maker at $965 billion post-money — making it one of the most valuable private companies in history.

GIC served as a co-lead investor alongside Capital Group, Coatue, D1 Capital Partners, ICONIQ, and XN, while Temasek joined as a significant investor. The round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital, and includes $15 billion in previously committed investments from hyperscalers, including $5 billion from Amazon.

The timing is notable. Anthropic reported its annualised run-rate revenue crossed $47 billion earlier in May, reflecting rapid enterprise adoption of Claude across global markets. The company has been securing major compute agreements — including deals with Amazon for up to five GW of capacity and with Google and Broadcom for next-generation TPU capacity — as it scales to meet surging demand.

Semiconductor firms Micron, Samsung, and SK hynix also joined as strategic infrastructure partners, reflecting Anthropic's need to secure reliable chip supply chains. Claude is now available on all three major cloud platforms: AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.

Why it matters for Singapore: The involvement of both GIC and Temasek in what is arguably the most significant private AI funding round ever signals Singapore's determination to be a financial stakeholder — not just a policy sandbox — in the global AI economy. It also gives the city-state direct influence over the governance priorities of one of the world's leading AI safety companies.
