Singapore-based Pints AI, winner of the MAS and AI Singapore 'AI in Finance Global Challenge,' has been awarded the AISG Startup Grant to develop compact, on-premise language models tailored for the financial sector.

Pints AI, a Singapore-based privacy-first enterprise Gen AI platform, has been awarded the AI in Finance Global Challenge Startup Grant from AI Singapore after emerging as one of the champions at the Singapore FinTech Festival Awards. The competition was jointly launched by the Monetary Authority of Singapore and AI Singapore, and powered by Oliver Wyman. Pints AI addresses two critical barriers holding back Gen AI adoption in financial services: cost of compute and data privacy. Rather than relying on massive public-cloud-hosted models like GPT-4, Pints builds compact language models — sub-10 billion parameters — that deploy directly inside a client's secured environment, whether on private cloud or on-premise. CEO Partha Rao and CTO Calvin Tan said the company is now working on Pints MOE, a mixture-of-experts framework, and Pints RevSurge, a platform to boost financial advisor productivity. The grant will fund GPU acquisitions, research collaborations with SUTD, and AI talent development.
Why it matters for Singapore: The MAS-AISG partnership reflects Singapore's strategy of seeding homegrown AI capabilities in its most regulated industry — financial services. Pints AI's approach of compact, on-premise deployment could give Singaporean banks and insurers a blueprint for adopting Gen AI without surrendering data sovereignty, a concern that has limited AI rollout across the sector.
