Google Gemini's active user base in Southeast Asia has more than doubled in a year, with Singapore emerging as the global leader in per-capita adoption and daily engagement, the tech giant revealed this week.
The region has embraced Gemini faster than any other Google app, and it is now the most searched-for AI assistant in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. While Google did not disclose exact regional user numbers, the company reports roughly 900 million monthly active users globally for the Gemini app.
Singapore leads the way in several key metrics. The city-state records the highest per-capita adoption of Gemini worldwide and the highest daily engagement across Southeast Asia. Four in 10 users in Singapore turn to Gemini for productive tasks such as explaining or debugging code. On weekends, casual chats and lifestyle requests rise to nearly a third of all prompts, with personal finance and travel queries proving more popular in Singapore than anywhere else in the region.
Young users are driving much of the regional growth — those under 25 account for 40 per cent of Gemini adoption in Southeast Asia. Nearly 70 per cent of prompts across the region are submitted in local languages, led by Vietnam (89 per cent), Thailand (87 per cent), and Indonesia (84 per cent). Singapore-based AI research initiative AI Singapore ranks Gemini as the best-performing large language model for Southeast Asian languages on its leaderboard.
