FAR.AI, an independent American nonprofit specialising in the trustworthy and secure development of advanced AI, has chosen Singapore for its first-ever office outside the United States. The new office will serve as FAR.AI's Asia Center of Excellence, building on existing collaborations with IMDA, CSA, and the NUS AI Institute on practical AI safety research.

FAR.AI, an independent American nonprofit focused on the trustworthy and secure development of advanced AI, has chosen Singapore for its first-ever office outside the United States — a decision that speaks to the city-state's growing gravitational pull in the AI safety and governance space.
The new office, announced July 29, will serve as FAR.AI's Asia Center of Excellence, anchoring the organisation's long-term presence in a region where frontier AI deployment is accelerating faster than regulatory frameworks can keep up. FAR.AI already had deep roots here: it has collaborated with IMDA on assessing the persuasive behaviour of chatbots, worked with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) on agentic AI security research, and built research ties with the NUS AI Institute through Professor Mohan Kankanhalli.
Founded in 2022, FAR.AI focuses on technical AI safety research — not abstract theory, but practical evaluations of how frontier models behave and where they fall short. The organisation was selected by the European Commission's AI Office to lead CBRN risk modelling supporting the EU AI Act, and works closely with frontier AI companies including OpenAI. Its Singapore office reflects a growing recognition that AI safety is a genuinely global challenge requiring local institutional partnerships, not just lab-based work in Silicon Valley.
For Singapore, FAR.AI's presence adds depth to an ecosystem that has been consciously built through agencies like IMDA, CSA, and the NUS AI Institute. Edward Yee, FAR.AI's Chief Growth Officer, specifically cited Singapore's "technical ambition, institutional depth, and serious commitment to responsible AI" as reasons for the choice — along with existing relationships that had already been nurtured over time. The IMDA collaboration on evaluating chatbot persuasiveness, in particular, aligns with Singapore's push toward evidence-based AI policymaking that balances innovation with consumer protection.
