Singapore-based HR technology startup Omni HR has launched a native Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration that allows AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor to read and act on live HR data — without copying data between systems or loosening access controls. The move positions the company at the intersection of two fast-moving trends: the adoption of AI agents in the workplace, and the push for permission-scoped data access that keeps security teams comfortable.
MCP, the open protocol developed by Anthropic, provides a standardised way for AI models to connect with external tools and data sources. Omni HR's integration means HR teams can ask an AI assistant to check who is on leave this week, run a headcount snapshot by department, or update an employee's profile — all scoped to what the authenticated user is already authorised to see in Omni. No HR data is stored at the connector level, and the AI does not get a broader view of the business than the person operating it.
The launch follows Omni's release of Mino, its own AI agent built into the platform, in June 2026. Together, the two capabilities form a strategy the company describes as making its data work harder: Mino brings AI inside Omni, while the MCP integration brings Omni into the AI tools teams already use daily. The company's State of AI in HR report, published alongside the product news, found that only 21% of HR leaders across Singapore and the Philippines trust AI outputs enough to act on them without manual review — a confidence gap the report traces to fragmented, inconsistent data.
By consolidating all HR data into one real-time system, Omni gives its MCP-connected AI assistants something reliable to work from. The protocol integration covers employee data, lifecycle management, and time off today, with more modules planned. It is available now in early access for existing customers.
Why it matters for Singapore: Omni HR is part of a growing cohort of Singapore-based startups building AI-native infrastructure for the Asian market, where cross-border employment regulations and fragmented HR systems create pain points that off-the-shelf global tools often miss. The MCP integration reflects a broader shift in how enterprise software is evolving — not as standalone platforms, but as data layers that AI assistants can reach into on demand. For Singapore's tech ecosystem, companies like Omni HR demonstrate that building for this API-first, AI-connected future is a viable product strategy with regional differentiation at its core.
