Singaporean Gen Zs are the least enthusiastic about AI compared to their peers across seven Asian markets, according to a Money Mind survey of over 3,000 respondents. While most acknowledge AI will benefit their careers, they expect it to raise performance expectations and create pressure to continuously prove their value in the workplace.

Singapore's youngest working generation harbours the deepest ambivalence toward artificial intelligence among seven Asian markets surveyed, a new Money Mind study has found. Drawing on responses from over 3,000 Gen Zs across China, India, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, the survey reveals a telling gap between AI optimism and workplace anxiety.

Most Singaporean Gen Zs recognise AI's potential to advance their careers. Yet that optimism comes with a sharp awareness of the trade-offs: they expect AI to fundamentally change job roles, raise employer expectations, and force them into a never-ending cycle of proving their relevance. The result is a generation that sees AI less as a liberating tool and more as an accelerator of workplace pressure.

This puts Singapore in a distinct position relative to regional peers. In markets like India and China, Gen Z respondents showed markedly higher enthusiasm, viewing AI primarily as a career accelerator. Singapore's measured outlook may reflect a more mature understanding of how automation reshapes professional hierarchies, or it could signal a cultural reticence that risks leaving local talent behind in the global AI talent race.

Why it matters for Singapore: As the city-state positions itself as a global AI hub, the sentiments of its youngest workers matter deeply. A workforce that views AI primarily as a source of job pressure rather than empowerment is less likely to experiment, innovate, and push boundaries. Policymakers and employers alike need to address this anxiety head-on through reskilling, transparent communication, and real opportunities for Gen Z to shape how AI is deployed, not just absorb its disruption.
