SGX-listed Trek 2000 has secured a US$350,000 contract to deploy its AI-powered renewable energy management system at a solar farm in Cambodia, marking the latest step in the Singapore company's pivot toward intelligent clean energy infrastructure. The project, announced via a regulatory filing on June 23, will see Trek deploy its proprietary AIRES Eco-System for real-time monitoring and optimisation of power generation.

The contract, awarded by Cambodian customer Our HS Convenience Co Ltd, covers the supply, installation, and commissioning of the AIRES platform, which integrates a dashboard, smart meter, and data logger into a unified system. The technology uses AI with preventive and predictive capabilities to monitor solar generation performance, predict maintenance needs, and optimise energy output. Post-commissioning, Trek will provide lifecycle management services for ongoing operational optimisation, creating a recurring revenue stream beyond the initial hardware sale.

For Trek 2000, best known historically as the inventor of the USB flash drive, this contract represents a deliberate diversification into the intersection of AI and clean energy — one of Singapore's priority growth sectors. Executive Chairman Wayne Tan described the deployment as exemplifying the company's broader strategy of applying AI and data-driven capabilities to address evolving needs in the energy transition, while strengthening energy resilience across the region. The company has indicated it will "further broaden the deployment of AIRES" as businesses transition toward intelligently managed clean energy.

The timing aligns with broader trends in Singapore's AI and green economy push. The government has committed significant resources to both AI adoption and the energy transition, and Singapore-based companies are increasingly exporting AI-enabled infrastructure solutions across Southeast Asia. Trek's AIRES project, while modest in absolute value at S$453,000, demonstrates how Singapore's deep tech ecosystem is producing integrated AI-hardware solutions that can be deployed in emerging markets where grid efficiency and renewable integration remain major challenges.

Why it matters for Singapore: Small-cap SGX-listed tech companies like Trek 2000 rarely make headlines, but they represent an underappreciated export channel for Singapore's AI capabilities. As regional demand for AI-powered energy management grows — Cambodia alone is targeting 35% renewable energy by 2030 — Singapore's expertise in marrying AI software with hardware deployment creates a tangible competitive advantage. The Trek 2000 contract is a small data point in a much larger trend: Singapore companies exporting AI solutions, not just consuming them.
